News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
On Monday, June 14, wilderness rangers Chris Stamper and Mike Brasfield, with assistance from Lee Pyke, Eric Harryman, and Mike White from Crew 401, Prevention 41 Teri Cairns, and Amanda Rau, packed out a large old Neapolitan mastiff (possibly a brindle English mastiff) found emaciated, dehydrated, and unable to walk by hikers, from the lava flow adjacent to Candle Creek approximately one mile on the Jefferson Lake Trail.
Daryl Davis and Vince Grace adjusted fire crew project work to accommodate the rescue. Zeb Watts from Engine 40 and COIDC provided communication support, and a Deschutes County Sheriff's Office deputy transported the dog from Sisters to the Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Bend.
"Little John" aka "Wild Jeff," as the rescuers dubbed him, is now at the Humane Society shelter in Bend. He was available for adoption as of Monday, June 21. Contact the Humane Society at 541-382-3537.
