News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Sisters salutes...

• Tristan Lewis wrote regarding the Sisters Middle School trip to the East Coast (see story, page 3):

I wanted to make an important "thank you" to the community for their support of our fundraisers for the trip.

They purchased calendars, aluminum water bottles, donuts, and supported our car washes. Many of us were expected to pay one-half or more for this trip and we would not have been able to go without these additional

funds.

I also wanted to thank the teachers who went with us. They volunteered to take us, gave us support when we needed it, and each day demonstrated their dedication to our education and our personal growth and well-being. They are: Mr. Nicklous; Mr. Patton; Mrs. Kanzig; and Ms. Shoenecker. This was not a school-sponsored trip and they had to make arrangements with their families to be away for a

week.

I sincerely enjoyed the trip, and without all of the support I have gotten to pay for this, I would have never had the great experience of the East

Coast.

• Cathy Downing was seriously hurt in a wreck on Highway 97 near Madras on April 7:

I want to thank the people who saved my life. The truck driver who swerved to try and miss me. The man who calmed me down when I was still in the car. The EMTs for being so fast. The doctor and all who helped in the ER at Mountain View Hospital. AirLink. And all the doctors, nurses, CNAs and staff at St. Charles Hospital.

I want to thank my family, friends and the community for their love, support, prayers and thoughts. The visits, phone calls, cards, flowers etc. while in the hospital kept me going and brought such happiness to me.

The love and support has not stopped since I've been home. Thank you to Doreen and Janet for setting up the account for a laptop and all who contributed; Maryjane for transporting me in her wheelchair van; Ronica for keeping my husband fed; the Sisters School staff for the meals; the spectacular people for the 24/7 care; Vicki, Jani, Allison, Maryjane, my mom and my wonderful husband who had everything set up at home for me. A very special thanks goes to Jani for all her work on Caring

Bridge.

There are too many wonderful people to name them all who have given to me. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.
