Public meeting set on Rooster Rock Fire

Firefighters continue to work on the Rooster Rock Fire located south of Sisters.

The fire remained active throughout the night and updated fire mapping this morning puts the total acreage at 2,650 acres. Lower temperatures and increased humidity decreased fire behavior this morning, and fire activity is currently moderate.

The fire is now considered five percent contained, with no estimate of full containment at this time. A Type II Incident Management Team (Rapp) assumed control of the fire at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

There will be a public meeting to provide information on the Rooster Rock fire tonight, August 3 at 7 p.m. at Sisters Elementary School. Incident Commander Mark Rapp will be at the meeting to answer questions about the incident.

The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff's Office Search and Research volunteers implemented a precautionary evacuation yesterday for homes approximately two miles south and two miles west of Plainview; it is estimated that the evacuation order affected fewer than 20 residences.

A Red Cross shelter has been set up at the Sisters Elementary School, 611 E Cascade Street in Sisters. The incident team will evaluate the evacuation order this afternoon and determine if residents can return to their homes.
