News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Rooster Rock Fire threw out a 50-acre spot fire this afternoon, which sent a new plume of smoke into the air south of Plainview. According to Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch, a significant amount of resources are currently working to contain the spot fire.
The fire is only 5 percent contained and no containment date has been set. According to COIDC, it was difficult for air support to assist ground crews this afternoon due to the smoke inversion and limited visibility. Firefighters and equipment continue to improve the line on the north flank of the fire; the fire line west of Whychus Creek is holding.
One storage outbuilding was confirmed lost in yesterday's action.
The fire continues to move generally southeast. It has grown only slightly to an estimated 2,700 acres, according to COIDC. Some 550 personnel are fighting the fire.
For recorded information regarding evacuation re-entry status, residents can call the Deschutes County Sheriff evacuation line at 541-550-4886.
