Western festival celebrates heritage

Folks in Sisters will celebrate the heritage of the West in the Sisters Western & Native American Arts Festival, September 4-5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sisters Creekside City Park.

Visitors will enjoy a fine variety of Western and Native American arts and crafts from vendors throughout the Sisters Country and around the Northwest.

The Anvil Blasters will perform on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Sunday, Charles Littleleaf, a flutist from Warm Springs, will perform.

Many other activities will take place throughout this event over Labor Day weekend.

Have you ever been inside a teepee or curious about how wool is spun? The festival will host live demonstrations. Find out about buffalo hides, drums, rattles, handmade bows and arrows, beaded bag pipes, ceremonial items and so much more. Enjoy a special presentation by Jess Anders and Greg Booth. Famed Oregon author, Rick Steber will be on hand with his new book, "Secrets of the Bull," and local author Len Gratteri will discuss his recently published book, "William Sherod Robinson, Alias Ben Wheeler."

Pat Elkin from Sacred White Buffalo will provide information about the local ranch and how you can help the breed.

The 2010 event poster was designed by Sisters artist Kimry Jelen. The poster is available for sale at the event or at the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce for $5. The show is free to the public and familyfriendly.
