News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws suffered a devastating 56-14 loss to the Panthers at Central on Friday, September 3, in their first pre-season football game.
Central was well prepared and emotionally charged for their first game. It seemed as if the entire town came out for the game and the christening of their brand new facility, complete with a turf field and covered stands with the capability to hold 1,500 spectators.
Central has a winning program and has lost only five games in the past three years, three of which were to Marist.
The Panthers notched another one in the win column against the Outlaws. They played well, and Sisters helped them out. The Outlaws turned the ball over four times in the first half, and Central scored on every turnover. The Panthers scored 22 additional points, and at the half the Outlaws were down 50-0.
Sisters headed to the locker room frustrated, but Macauley told his team they needed to learn and play through adversity.
Ethan Luloff got the Outlaws going in the third quarter and ran in a 28-yard touchdown behind the blocking of Marteen Jiminez and Bryce Alderman. Jordan Hodges put it through the uprights for the extra point, and Sisters was on the board.
Later in the quarter Erik Carlson connected with Hodges for a 55-yard touchdown pass. Hodges was good on the extra point, and Sisters narrowed the score to 50-14.
Central scored one last touchdown in the fourth to notch the 56-14 victory.
"It was a very frustrating and one-sided game," said Macauley. "Overall, it looked like a zero week game for us. Defensively, we had nine players doing the right thing and two players that didn't do their specific job - and it was never the same two players. That broke down the integrity of the defense."
Macauley praised quarterback Erik Carlson for his outstanding play. Despite being under pressure the entire game, Carlson was able to complete 10 of 16 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown.
Macauley told The Nugget that many of his players missed practice due to minor injuries, which really hurt them this week.
"We weren't able to move forward as a team," said Macauley. "But, I know the character of these kids, and they've proven they come back quickly."
The Outlaws will host Burns at home on Friday, September 10.
