Polo classic to benefit Ten Friends

The Chukkers for Charity Fall Polo Classic will kick off on Sunday, September 18 at 2 p.m. The gate opens at Central Oregon's only polo field at Camp Fraley Ranch, 60580 Gosney Rd. in Bend at noon. Spectators are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs, have a picnic prior to the game, and settle in for an afternoon of fast-paced equine action.

Dan Harrison, a Tumalo area veterinarian, is a longtime polo player and organizer of the Fall Polo Classic. The Chukkers for Charity series is a way to bring top-level players from around the Northwest to play for a cause. The first match, held in July, drew several hundred spectators.

Four charities benefit from each match. The Fall Polo Classic supports Bend Area Habitat for Humanity, KIDS Center, Ten Friends and the Redmond Humane Society.

Ten Friends was founded by Rand Runco and Mark LaMont, of Sisters, to aid the people of Nepal.

Cost for the match is $10 per adult; kids 12 and under are free. To make sure your charity of choice is supported by your admission fee, be sure to pick up a benefit voucher from businesses around town.
