Tickets still available for benefit play

Tickets are still available for the special benefit performance of A.R. Gurney's hit play "Love Letters," set for Saturday, October 2, at 8 p.m. at the Tower Theatre. The play, a fundraiser for the Sisters Schools Foundation, stars two well-known actors, Gregory Harrison and Linda Purl, who are donating their time in support of our local schools.

"As school budgets continue to be cut, an event like 'Love Letters' gives the community a great way to support our schools while enjoying a wonderful evening of theatre with these renowned actors," said co-producer Jeri Fouts. "Gregory Harrison and Linda Purl are traveling here and generously giving their time - let's have a big Sisters turn-out for 'Love Letters' and join them in supporting Sisters schools and this community."

Tracing the lifelong correspondence of lawyer Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and artist Melissa Gardner, the story of their bittersweet relationship gradually unfolds from what is written - and what is left unsaid - in their letters. It has been performed on Broadway and in many theatre companies across the country and has been done as a fundraiser for a variety of charities. The producers note that it does contain some adult language and situations, and is not recommended for children.

Gregory Harrison is a veteran of many stage and television roles, who is perhaps best known for his role as Dr.

Gonzo Gates on the series "Trapper John, MD." On Broadway, he has performed in such plays as "Follies," "Steel Pier," and "Paper Moon," and has played the lead role of Billy Flynn in over 1,000 performances of the hit musical "Chicago," both on Broadway and in the national touring company.

Linda Purl's credits include lead roles in more than 40 television movies and such series as "Happy Days" and "Matlock." Her extensive theatre credits include the Tony-nominated Broadway production of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and the Los Angeles productions of "The Real Thing" and "Hedda Gabler." Most recently, she has been seen in guest roles on "The Office" and "Desperate Housewives."

The evening will feature a silent auction with a selection of collectible items including a quilt donated by Jean Wells of Stitchin' Post in Sisters; a plein air painting by renowned pastel artist Norma Holmes; an original watercolor by acclaimed artist Kathy Deggendorfer; and a guitar signed by legendary rockers Crosby, Stills and Nash.

"Love Letters" is presented by Ray's Food Place and The Oxford Hotel, with special thanks to The Tower Theatre, XPress Printing, Murray and Holt Motors and Bank of the Cascades.

Tickets, priced at $75, $50 and $35, are available at http://www.towertheatre.org or at the Tower Theatre box office. For information, contact Novella Swisher at [email protected]
