Lady Outlaws crush Crook County on soccer pitch

The girls' soccer team went on a scoring frenzy against Crook County at home on Thursday, September 9, cruising to a 8-0 shutout over the Cowgirls.

Jody Reoch got the Outlaws started with a goal nine minutes into the contest. Marin Allen made a beautiful pass to Reoch, who knocked it in to the left of the keeper from 12 yards out.

At the 27-minute mark the Outlaws were awarded a penalty kick. Michele Young made the shot and Sisters went up 2-0. Three minutes later freshman Natalie Ambrose, in her first varsity contest, scored an unassisted goal that went up and over the keeper's head.

Marin Allen took a pass from Young and punched in a diagonal shot that crossed in front of the keeper and into the net for the goal. Sisters entered the half with a 4-0 lead.

Freshman Haley Carlson, in her first varsity appearance, scored Sisters' first goal of the second half. Carlson shot from 12 yards out and punched it up and over the keeper's head.

Allen scored her second goal of the game at the 52-minute mark. Ambrose passed it up from the middle and Allen headed it in for the goal, which gave Sisters a 6-0 advantage.

Two minutes later Harley Bowler scored to the left of the keeper on a Lauryn Chauncey pass.

At that point Coach Nik Goertzen had his team pull back and just work on ball movement. Chauncey was moved up to the forward position and was told she was the only one allowed to take a shot at the goal. Chauncey has played varsity for two years, and due to her position has never had the opportunity to score a goal. Goertzen felt it was the perfect opportunity to give her that chance.

Chauncey came through and in the 74th minute capped Sisters' scoring with an unassisted goal, the first of her career.

The Lady Outlaws walked away with a satisfying first game of the season under their belts.

"The kids have been playing against each other in practice for two weeks and were busting at the seams to play someone else," said Goertzen. "They were ready to play and everyone on the team contributed. It's the first step in a long season, and we're anticipating the next challenge with Madras."

The Lady Outlaws were to play at Madras on Tuesday, September 14, and then host No.-7-ranked Henley on Saturday, September 18. Gametime in the unusual Saturday contest is set for noon, and price for admission is $5.
