News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys soccer team defeated the Cascade Cougars 7-2 at home on Tuesday, September 7, and two days later beat Crook County 6-1.
Jake McAllister got the Outlaws going in their first preseason game of the year against Cascade. McAllister, in the first minutes of his first varsity contest as a freshman, headed it in for the goal.
At the five-minute mark Colby Gilmore was tackled in the penalty region. Freddy Gonzalez scored on the penalty kick to put Sisters up 2-0.
Nice dribbling from Scotty Bowen allowed him a clear shot from the 18-yard mark. Bowen was dead on and knocked it in with his right foot.
"Scotty's a lefty but his righty is looking awfully good," said Coach Rob Jensen. "He's playing awesome."
At the half the Outlaws held a 3-0 lead.
Three minutes into the second half Gonzalez made a beautiful cross to Tim Hernandez who headed it in for a goal. Five minutes later Bowen shot from outside the 18-yard mark to score and pushed Sisters to a 5-0 advantage.
Gonzalez scored from 18 yards out at the 53-minute mark and then wrapped up Sisters' scoring effort with a point blank shot to the left of the keeper.
Cascade got their two goals off a penalty kick and a header in the last 10 minutes of the game.
Gonzalez led the Outlaws with a hat trick (three goals) and an assist. Scott Everson had two assists in the game.
Sisters had 33 shots on goal and limited the Cougars to just seven shots on goal.
"The team's playing well," said Jensen, "but it's still early in the season. Sam (Quinn) and Austin (Williams) were solid in the center of the defense and played extremely well. They're asked to play a dual role at center defense and the chemistry is great. They're working extremely well together."
Quinn said, "We played with good team chemistry today. We were in better shape, we were first to the ball and we had way more shots on goal."
Jensen added, "We're just going to try and continue to improve every game."
Two days later the Outlaws traveled to Crook County and walked away with a 6-1 victory.
Tim Hernandez headed in Sisters' first goal of the contest off an assist from Gonzalez to put Sisters up 1-0.
Miscommunication on defense led to a Crook County goal from 12 yards out midway through the first half and the Cowboys evened the score 1-1.
Just two minutes later, Austin Williams was issued a red card due to rough play and Sisters was down a man for the remainder of the game.
The score was tied 1-1 at the half.
Sisters scored two goals in the first five minutes of the second half and the Outlaws cruised to victory.
Jensen said, "We played very well and dominated every aspect of the game."
The Outlaws were to host Madras on Tuesday, September 14, and travel to Henley on Saturday, September 18.
