Chiropractor takes on new Sisters practice

Natural, advanced chiropractic help for sufferers of back and spinal pain awaits at Ponderosa Chiropractic, located above Thyme Restaurant in the FivePine Campus.

Dr. Darcy Dill has recently purchased the practice, formerly named Ponderosa Family Chiropractic, from Dr. Anthony Green and wishes to provide a comprehensive set of non-surgical and drug-free alternatives for victims of spinal discomfort.

"We provide the solution to part of the healthcare crisis. Bend is the number-two city in the U.S. for back surguries. That needs to change. Our vison is to build the business and give specialized services to the community - especially teen athletes - and help educate the public about more natural health and lifestyle choices," said Dill.

Dill graduated from the University of Oregon in 1974 and the Life Chiropractic College in 1979. He has been licensed and board certified since 1983.

"I do a lot of rehab types of therapy for patients to do at home," said Dill. "I'm a firm believer that people should be an active participant in their own healing process and I try to give them different exercises to facilitate and enhance that program in the comfort of their own homes."

Ponderosa Chiropractic offers two deluxe treatment rooms with a full complement of the latest therapeutic equipment to enhance spinal adjustment to a higher level of health.

Dill's array of machines include a hydraulic "hi-low" spinal table, an interferential muscle stimulus device, ultrasound, and an intersegmental traction machine providing intermittent stimulation to the vertebrae.

This process seeks to feed discs with vital fluids by providing stimulus to allow the movement necessary for nourishment of the disc itself.

"After the age of 25, people lose the blood supply to each disc, and this machine helps encourage the uptake of fluids in a process called imbibition," said Dill, demonstrating how the machine works. "That is why we all begin to slowly shrink, that compression over time."

In addition to his practice, Dill wrote and self-published "Body Friendly Golf" in 2006. It's an instructional book and interactive DVD that combines exercises and golf swing drills, nutrition suggestions and lifestyle changes to enhance not only your golf game, but your entire life.

"It teaches people how to customize a golf fitness program for their swing and overall fitness for a particular body type, highlighting strength and flexibility," explained Dill. "It's been well-received and I did a big book tour in support of it, driving around the country in my motor home, speaking at various golf institutions."

Dill was a speaker at the 2008 ACA Sports Symposium, held at the Tiger Woods Building inside the Nike Headquarters in Beaverton. He is a certified personal trainer and master golf trainer, instructed by Paul Calloway, who trained Tiger Woods.

This winter, Dill will be teaching at the prestigious PGA West in Palm Springs and the Eldorado Country Club at Indian Wells. During his absense, Dill will be bringing in a temporary associate doctor while running these seasonal golf programs in California. Bendbroadband's Channel 11 will feature Dill on a local TV show called "The Golf Adventure."
