Sisters band hosts funk ensemble

The Sisters High School Band is hosting the hard-hitting Joe Manis Funk Ensemble in concert this Friday, September 24, as a part of a fifth quarter event after the Outlaws home football game.

The concert, which is open to the public, will be held club style in the SHS Band room, encouraging lots of dancing, with a $5 cover charge, starting at approximately

9 p.m.

The Manis Ensemble plays acoustic funk and hip hop grooves well liked by a broad range of audiences. The band's highly danceable programs have included material from modern hip hop artists to Pink Floyd and James Brown.

The concert has been programmed to continue presenting the well-received sounds of the music brought to Sisters by the Trombone Shorty band last spring, according to band director Jody Henderson.

The Manis Ensemble will feature saxophonists Joe Manis and Jesse Cloninger, trombonist Joe Freuen, with guitarist Justin Morell, bassist Andrea Neimic, and acclaimed drummer Jason Palmer. The members collectively represent work internationally with many bands which include The Daddies, Maynard Ferguson, The Supremes, Thomas Mapfuno, and Mason Williams.

Multiple members of the Manis Ensemble have been individually recognized through awards and review by the music publications Downbeat, Cadence, All About Jazz, and All Music Guide.
