News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys soccer team shut out Cottage Grove 3-0 at home on Thursday, September 23, recording their first league win of the season.
Sisters scored 25 minutes into the game to take the lead. Scott Everson kicked a low hard ball from the corner to the right side to Sam Quinn who took the ball and shot it in from just outside the 18-yard box.
Five minutes later, Tim Hernandez and Sebastain Boehm broke away and passed the ball back and forth down the field. The Lions' goalie came out of the box to challenge Boehm, but Sebastian put a well-placed shot into the corner of the net for the goal.
At the half Sisters held a 2-0 advantage.
The Outlaws and the Lions played even until the 66th minute, when Quinn played the ball over to Everson. Scotty made a perfect left-footed shot into the upper right corner and Sisters extended their lead to 3-0.
Sisters controlled the ball and spread the field for the remainder of the contest.
"We took better shots on goal and were able to get the ball in attacking position," said Coach Rob Jensen.
Two days earlier the Outlaws lost 1-0 at Junction City (JC) in their league opener. JC scored on a breakaway in the second half. Sisters outshot the Tigers 20-8 but missed several key opportunities. The Outlaws had two of their shots hit the posts and missed a critical penalty in the first half.
Sisters is currently 3-3 overall and 1-1 in league. The Outlaws will travel to Sweet Home on September 30.
