Outlaws fall to Gladstone

The Outlaws football team battled hard against No. 3 ranked Gladstone at home on Friday, September 23.

Although Sisters lost 35-6, Coach Bob Macauley was very pleased with his team's defense and feels the Outlaws are ready for league play.

The Outlaws scored their lone touchdown in the second quarter, when Erik Carlson connected with Jordan Hodges on a pass and narrowed the Gladiators lead to 7-6. Gladstone scored midway through the second quarter on an 80-yard run and at the half held a 14-6 advantage.

Macauley said, "Our defense played very well and held Gladstone to just two touchdowns in the first half."

The Gladiators scored on their first possession in the third quarter to go up 21-6. Sisters played pretty even with Gladstone the remainder of the game. The Gladiators got one last touchdown against the Outlaws' second unit to push the final score to 35-6.

Macauley told The Nugget that Carlson did a good job of leading the Outlaws offensively.

"Erik kept the drives going for us with good runs, good leadership and good passing," he said.

Hodges caught three passes for a total of 75 yards and a touchdown.

Sisters had a tough pre-season schedule with games against No. 1 Burns (3A), No. 1 Central (4A) and Gladstone (No. 3 ranked in the state).

"For a young team we're pretty well battle tested for league," said Macauley.

The Outlaws expect their league opener at home against Junction City on Friday, October 1, to be a great game.
