News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Girls soccer team is a dominant force

The Lady Outlaws' soccer team logged two more shutouts this past week and pushed their league record to 4-0. Sisters maintained their first-place position at the 4A level. The girls have put 40 goals in the net thus far on the season. The Outlaws are ranked fourth best at all levels in points allowed - just one goal this year.

The Outlaws defeated Sweet Home 6-0 on Thursday, September 30, at home.

Natalie Ambrose punched in a goal directly in front of the keeper at the five-minute mark to give Sisters a quick 1-0 lead. Five minutes later Jodie Reoch scored an unassisted goal and the Outlaws went up 2-0. Midway through the first half Reoch passed it over to Marissa Haynes, who scored her first goal of the season.

"Marissa has had two arthroscopic knee surgeries, and is wearing a knee brace," said Coach Nik Goertzen. "She's been my team manager for two years because of her injuries and this is the first year she's actually got to play. So, to score today was a big thrill for her."

Five minutes later Reoch scored on an unassisted goal that went straight into the net and Sisters entered the half with a 4-0 lead.

The Outlaws scored two additional goals in the second half within a seven-minute period and pushed to a 6-0 advantage. Haley Carlson made a nice move to the inside and then hit a bullet shot from 16 yards out that went up and over the keeper's head. Ambrose scored Sisters' final goal of the contest at 56 minutes and then Sisters played out the clock.

"The girls played awesome," said Goertzen. "Their passes were good and I'm pleased with their effort and attitude toward each other."

Two days earlier the Outlaws recorded a 9-0 shutout at home against La Pine.

Ambrose led the Outlaws with a hat trick, and all three goals came within a 13-minute period in the first half. Marin Allen added two goals and Reoch and Shennan Chick each added one to give Sisters a commanding 7-0 advantage at the half.

"After our fifth goal La Pine looked like they'd gotten the wind knocked out of them and their energy level dropped significantly," stated Goertzen.

Sisters' offense moved back to defense and the defense moved up to offense for the entire second half.

Sisters plays at Junction City on Wednesday, October 6.
