News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys soccer team crushed the Falcons 6-0 at Elmira on Monday, October 4, and two days later shut out Junction City (JC) 2-0 in Sisters. The victory gave the Outlaws their fourth consecutive league win and pushed their league record to 4-1.
In Monday's game against Elmira, Sebastian Boehm scored a goal on a through ball assist from Tanner Smith midway through the first half to get the Outlaws started.
At the 28-minute mark Jake McAllister was fouled in the penalty box. Evan Rickards scored on the PK with a beautiful shot into the upper left for the goal. Sisters held the 2-0 lead at the half.
Sisters scored four in the second half within a 10-minute period with goals from Scotty Bowen, Boehm, Tim Hernandez and Stefan Boelle.
Bowen beat the keeper and sent a powerful shot to the inside at the near post for the first goal of the second half and got the Outlaws going on their scoring spree.
Boehm had a tremendous game at left midfield, as did Bowen at center midfield.
"Sebastian outworked his opponents and had some huge hustle plays that led to three of our six goals," said Coach Rob Jensen. "The one-two combination between Sebastian (Boehm) and Scotty (Bowen) was great."
Boehm said, "We've got our players in all the right spots. Our defense is playing exceptional and has allowed only one goal so far in league, and our offense is averaging four goals per game."
Zach Hanneman made some crucial stops in the goal.
The Outlaws' constant pressure resulted in 42 shots on goal for Sisters compared to Elmira's seven.
"The team had many opportunities to score and are continuing to develop and improve," said Jensen.
On Wednesday, the Outlaws logged their second shutout of the week with a 2-0 win over JC.
Sisters jumped out to a quick start. Colby Gilmore headed one in off a cross from Jake McAllister for the goal. The score stayed at 1-0 to the half.
The Outlaws scored their second and final goal in the 64th minute when Gilmore assisted Evan Rickards from right to left, where Rickards finished with a powerful shot to the corner.
Sisters' defense once again had a spectacular performance and limited the Tigers to just five shots on goal for the game. The defense controlled the ball and the offense pressured JC on their half and had numerous shots on goal.
The Outlaws out-shot JC 25-5 for the game. The Tigers' keeper had to make 15 saves.
"One key to the win was our control of the possession," said Jensen. "Our team moved and supported each other to keep the ball in our possession and limited the opportunities for Junction City to make plays."
The win moved Sisters into a first-place tie with Cottage Grove.
