Volleyball team continues winning roll

The Lady Outlaws volleyball squad tallied two more wins last week to push their league record to a

perfect 5-0.

Sisters swept the Lions at Cottage Grove with scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-17 on Monday, October 4, and two days later easily handled Junction City (JC) with scores of 25-11, 25-8 and 25-15.

In Monday's game, the Outlaws maintained control of the match despite some tough serves from the Lions.

Sisters' offense was distributed among several players. Lizzy Carhart led the team with eight kills and four blocks. Megan Minke added two kills and six blocks, and Bailey Bremer finished the night with six kills. Chelsea Reifschneider tallied four kills, and Kaity Douglass and Kristina Johns each added two.

Reifschneider had an incredible hustle play and save for the Outlaws in game two. She went all-out to get a ball up near the end of the Outlaws' bench.

"It was quite a feat of athleticism and determination," Coach Diane Bremer said.

For the first time this season the Lady Outlaws played without senior captain Mary Jane Schulte, who was out due to minor surgery.

Bremer told The Nugget that it took a while for the Outlaws to adapt and regroup.

"MJ is such a positive floor leader for us and she was there on the sideline doing her job," she said.

On Wednesday, the Outlaws set the pace of the game.

Samantha Williamson had an incredible night in the back court. Williamson logged five key digs and went 17 for 18 from the service line with two aces.

Reifschneider led the team with 10 kills, followed by Carhart and Minke, who recorded eight and six kills respectively. Bremer and Kristina Johns each contributed four kills on the night and Minke recorded three blocks. Douglass dished out 34 assists, made 11 digs and put down four kills.

Shannon Fouts moved up from JV to join the varsity team for the match. Fouts made a big contribution in game two when she tallied six consecutive serves, including an ace.

"At this point, these girls have responded so well to adversity and seem to be able to adjust position-wise to whatever I ask of them," said Bremer. "They are true competitors and a joy to coach."

The Outlaws are halfway through league play with a spotless record of 5-0 and are 14-1 overall. Sisters was to play at home against Sweet Home on October 12, and on Thursday, October 14, the squad will travel to Elmira.
