News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws volleyball team beat Sweet Home on Tuesday, October 12, in three straight games with scores of 25-14, 25-20, and 25-21. Two days later Sisters defeated the Falcons at Elmira and pushed their league record to 7-0.
Sisters' matchup against Sweet Home was an important one for the Lady Outlaws. Earlier in the season, Sweet Home pushed Sisters to a five-game match and the Lady Outlaws were well aware that the Huskies could be a tough competitor. Sisters came out strong from the start and played a mentally tough match.
Sydney Stoneback was dig leader on the night with 17, followed by Kaity Douglass who finished with 10. Chelsea Reifschneider added nine digs and Marissa Calavan pitched in for seven.
Coach Diane Bremer told The Nugget that Calavan is playing great defense and continues to do an excellent job at right back for the Lady Outlaws.
Megan Minke led the squad on offense with nine kills and five blocks.
"Meg really turned her game around from Saturday (in the Seaside Tournament, where the Outlaws were third in their pool) and showed a lot of leadership for a sophomore," stated Bremer.
Lizzy Carhart, at middle blocker, finished with eight kills and three blocks on the night. Bailey Bremer put down six kills and Reifschneider and Kristina Sparling each added three.
"This was a great night for our middles and they really turned it on," said Bremer.
Kaity Douglass dished out 30 assists and went 24 of 25 from the service line. Douglass also added three big blocks for the Outlaws.
On Thursday, Sisters defeated the Falcons in a competitive four-game match with scores of 25-13, 27-25, 23-25 and 25-12.
Kristina Sparling had a big night against the Falcons, with seven kills and two blocks. Bailey Bremer, Lizzy Carhart and Kaity Douglass each added four kills.
Douglass also had a superb performance at the net with four blocks. Kaity also logged 34 assists in the match.
"Kaity is so adept at playing the overpass and timing her jump against the opponent," said Bremer. "She saves our bacon on those bad passes and keeps the momentum going our direction."
Sisters stands at 7-0 in league with three matches still to be played. The Outlaws will host Cottage Grove on Thursday, October 21, and senior players will be honored before the match begins. Sisters will wrap up league play with a match at Junction City on Saturday, October 23.
The first-place finisher in the Sky-Em conference will play the No. 4 team in the Oregon West conference.
