News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys soccer team trounced Sweet Home 9-0 at home on Thursday, October 21. The Outlaws improved their league record to 5-1-1 and 7-3-1 overall. If the Outlaws can record a victory at Elmira on Wednesday, October 27, they will be crowned Sky-Em champs.
Seven players contributed in the Outlaws' shutout at home against the Huskies of Sweet Home. Colby Gilmore got Sisters off to a quick start with a goal just 30 seconds into the game. Jake McAllister followed with a header off a Scotty Bowen assist and one minute later Hernandez took a pass from Tim McAllister and headed it in for a goal. With just six minutes off the clock the Outlaws took an early 3-0 lead.
McAllister punched in his second goal of the night on a breakaway at the seven-minute mark. Nathan Roy scored 10 minutes before the half to push Sisters to a comfortable 5-0 advantage.
Scotty Everson kept the Outlaws' momentum rolling at the start of the second half when he scored on a corner kick that went up into the right corner of the net. Just one minute later Hernandez scored and the Outlaws extended their lead to 7-0.
Robert Small and Devon Prescott scored at the 60- and 62-minute mark, respectively, to cap Sisters' scoring and secure the Outlaws win.
McAllister had a big night for Sisters and finished with two goals and two assists. Hernandez also contributed two goals for the Outlaws and both Scotty Everson and Scotty Bowen recorded two assists from the center midfield position.
"Our midfield players controlled the ball and passed it very well," said Coach Rob Jensen. "And, our defense is playing great. The defense has not allowed a goal or a shot inside the 18-yard box in the last six games."
In last week's action the Outlaws tied Cottage Grove at 0-0. The Outlaws had a couple of great scoring opportunities, but the Lions' defenders were there and made great saves.
In the second half, at the 65th minute, Austin Williams made an incredible save for the Outlaws and kept the Lions from scoring. Williams saved a shot out of the air that was headed into the goal.
Williams said, "This was the biggest game of our season so far, and I think we played well. We haven't beaten CG at their place in all the four years I've played, and today we tied them which secured our first-place league spot. The way we've been playing is giving me a lot of confidence for our playoff run. I think we're going to go far."
Coach Rob Jensen told The Nugget that it was a crazy game and quite a bit of action for a 0-0 result.
