News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The girls' soccer team recorded their eighth shut-out in league play with their 6-0 win at Sweet Home on Thursday, October 21. Sisters has dominated league play all season, and Thursday's game was no exception. Even the horrible wet condition of the field didn't seem to affect the Outlaws' play.
Jodie Reoch led Sisters with a hat trick (three goals) and scored her first goal of the night 12 minutes into the game. Kelly Cole passed the ball over to the middle to Reoch, who punched in a goal with a powerful shot straight into the middle of the net.
Michelle Young scored an unassisted goal at the 30-minute mark with a rocket shot to the back of the cage and pushed the Outlaws to a 2-0 lead.
Seven minutes later, Sisters was awarded a free kick due to a push penalty. Reoch sent the ball up and over the keeper's head for the score, and at the half the Outlaws held the Huskies scoreless at 3-0.
Four minutes into the second half, Reoch scored on another penalty kick and the Outlaws went up 4-0.
At the 51-minute mark, Reoch passed the ball over to Marin Allen, who was standing just in front of the box. Allen took a shot and the ball went between the keeper's legs for the goal.
Just minutes later, the Huskies were charged with a hand ball penalty inside the 18-yard box. Natalie Ambrose kicked the PK and sent the ball up and over the keeper into the right side of the net for Sisters' final goal of the night.
Coach Nik Goertzen said, "For the last 27 minutes I got to rest some kids with minor injuries and let some other kids play, including four kids we brought up from JV."
The team fought hard and held the Huskies scoreless to the very end.
"It was a great win," stated Goertzen. "We were a little apprehensive at the start of the game. The field conditions weren't that great. It was soggy and wet and heavy and it's a long, narrow field."
Goertzen added, "It's an outstanding accomplishment to have come this far and still be undefeated. But, after (Wednesday, October 27), it will be a must-win situation for us. It's a whole new ball game as we get ready for playoffs. We'll need a whole new mindset."
The Lady Outlaws play at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, at Reed Stadium in a game rescheduled due to weather.
