News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters High School Drama Department is making "Much Ado About Nothing" - Shakespeare that is.
This romantic comedy is directed by performing arts instructor Gary Bowne. The Outlaw Players include advanced acting students enrolled in the fall drama class. The play is being produced during Bowne's third and fourth period classes to accommodate the after-school schedules of many student athletes this fall.
The cast is led by seniors Seth Flanders and Bryant Lasken. Juniors Remington Bruce, Brett Pray, Trevor Condel, McKenzie Legg, Brittney Wilhelm and Randi Anderson also share leading roles. Supporting cast members include Adam Cash, Jennifer Littler, Jordyn Clymens, Chelsey Davidson, Taylor Sickau, Jacob Heath, and Felicia Zandonatti.
Junior Molly Hagen is choreographer for the masquerade ball dance. The set for the play is being constructed by the SHS fall theatre production class led by Tyler Ogilvie, Loren Dow, Colton Cooper and Alex Cristiano.
"Much Ado About Nothing" is one of the acknowledged masterpieces of Shakespeare's brightest period. The play joins together comedy, tragedy, tragicomedy and farce with magnificent sections of dialogue and humorous romantic incidents.
The marriage of gallant Don Claudio to the fair Lady Hero is thwarted by the evil machinations of Don John, a dark and sinister villain. A most famous subplot treats the audience to the antagonistic relationship between Beatrice, Hero's cousin, and Claudio's friend Benedick. Pure comedy and laughter abound as these two "jesters at love" get caught in the net of their own mockery of marriage enroute to the surprise ending.
The play will run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, November 1, 2, 4 and 5 at 7 p.m. at Sisters High School Auditorium. Tickets, available at the door, are $7 for adults, $3 for students. Monday is free for students with valid ID.
