News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys soccer team routed the Elmira Hawks in a 7-0 shutout at Elmira to wrap up league and claim the Sky-Em championship title.
Scotty Bowen's hat trick and two goals from Tim Hernandez led Sisters in their scoring effort.
Bowen scored the first goal of the contest off a cross from Evan Rickards at the two- minute mark. Just over two minutes later, Jake McAllister beat the defenders and scored inside the post for the score.
In the eighth minute, Bowen recorded his second goal of the night. Bowen broke down two defenders in the middle, dribbled straight down the field and scored an unassisted goal from 15 yards out.
Sisters notched one additional goal before the half on a shot from Tim Hernandez to take a 4-0 lead. Hernandez took a pass from Sebastian Boehm, and from just outside the 18-yard box, placed the ball perfectly into the corner of the cage.
Hernandez kept the fire going in the second half with a score in the 40th minute to boost Sisters to a 5-0 advantage. He drove in a powerful shot at head height to the left of the keeper from six yards out.
Two minutes later, Sisters scored again. Jake McAllister dished the ball over to Scotty Everson, who expertly controlled the ball and drove it in on the ground right up the middle and into the back of the net.
Bowen capped Sisters' scoring in the 47th minute when he broke free and punched it in for the goal.
Bowen said, "Scott's (Everson) passes to me were crisp and accurate and allowed me to score the goals I got."
Sisters dominated play throughout the contest, wrapped up their league season with a shutout and earned the league title in the process.
The Outlaws offense turned in an extraordinary performance.
"Our offense pressured the ball and controlled it," said Coach Rob Jensen. "They made Elmira make mistakes and made defense easy for us. To Elmira's credit, they were the first team to get a shot inside the 18-yard box since our first game in league."
Both Bowen and Sam Quinn commented on the win.
"We were extremely energetic and hyped up for the game," said Quinn with a grin. "The seniors were determined to get a league title and we came out to win. We focused on the task at hand and had a champion mindset and it paid off."
Bowen added, "We've got eight seniors on our team and most of us have played together since elementary school. That helped us develop the great team chemistry that we have and led us to having a great season and getting first."
Sisters will play at home against the No. 4 seed from the Oregon West Conference on Saturday, November 6, at 2 p.m.
