Boys soccer suffers heartbreaking loss

The boys soccer team suffered a disappointing 5-3 loss at home to Newport on Saturday, November 6.

Athletic director Mary Flande confirmed that the team was short five players who could not play because they violated the student conduct code.

Newport scored in the seventh minute of play off a header from a throw in and jumped out with a quick lead. Both teams battled hard for the next 33 minutes but neither team was able to score. At the half the Cubs held a slim 1-0 advantage over the Outlaws.

In the second half, Sam Quinn was moved to the forward position and in the 50th minute scored on a breakaway goal to tie the game 1-1. Quinn scored again off a cross and deflection. But Newport scored four goals between the 60th and 70th minutes to regain the lead at 5-2.

Tim Hernandez finished the game with a PK to make it 5-3.

"It was a tough way to finish the season and I was hoping to come out and get a win," said Coach Rob Jensen. "The players played with heart and displayed great sportsmanship. I am proud to be associated with such a great group of student athletes."
