Girls soccer shuts down Central in first round

The girls soccer team continued their dominant play with a 7-0 shutout over Central at home in the first round of the state playoffs.

Sisters jumped out early and never looked back. Natalie Ambrose scored back-to-back goals in the first 10 minutes to give the Outlaws a quick 2-0 lead.

Ambrose's first goal came off a Zoe McAllister pass and was perfectly placed to the right of the keeper. Just minutes later Ambrose took a pass from Jodie Reoch and cracked a bullet shot to the left of the keeper to score.

Marin Allen scored two additional goals in just a two-minute timespan. Both shots went up and over the keeper's head for the score. McKenzie Cooper and Ambrose, respectively, connected with Allen for the assists.

The Outlaws held the visiting Panthers scoreless and at the half were up 4-0.

Just two minutes into the second half, Breezy Tewalt kept the Outlaws' momentum going when she scored an unassisted goal from 30 yards out.

Allen blasted a shot from the center of the field at the 50-minute mark to score Sisters' sixth goal of the contest. The powerful shot sailed to the right of the keeper and into the back of the cage.

Michelle Young wrapped up Sisters' scoring five minutes later with a shot from midfield.

With a 7-0 lead and 25 minutes still to play, Coach Nik Goertzen put some of his younger players and JV players he'd brought up for post-season into the game. The Outlaws played even to the end and walked away with the win.

The defense recorded their 11th shutout of the season. Sisters still leads at the 4A level in least amount of goals scored against them, which is three. The seven goals scored against Central pushes Sisters' total to 89 on the season and puts them in second place, just behind Hidden Valley.

Sisters had 24 shots on goal compared to Central's 12 and Outlaws' keeper, Sara Small, recorded nine saves in the game.

"We played great today and we made good passes and reads," beamed Nik Goertzen. "We're going at full stride and firing on all cylinders. We're all healthy and we're taking care of business."

With the win the Lady Outlaws tied the girls' soccer record of 14 wins in a season.

The Outlaws were to host the second round of the state playoffs on Tuesday, November 9.
