Rodeo featured in new fire district logo

Chief Thad Olsen, of Cloverdale Rural Fire Protection District, presented a framed decal of the fire district's new logo to Sisters Rodeo Association to display in the rodeo clubhouse.

"It is with great pleasure that the volunteers of the Cloverdale District and the volunteer firefighters association presents to Sisters Rodeo our new logo," said Chief Olsen. "We have a great relationship (with the rodeo) and look forward to continuing it in the future."

When the district decided to update their logo, they wanted to incorporate some of the area's attractions "that make us unique to Oregon."

"Sisters Rodeo is the biggest draw for people to our small community, and we are very proud that the event takes place in our fire district," explained Olsen. The district sought approval from the rodeo association, which was granted with enthusiastic support.

The new logo depicts the life of Cloverdale farming, currently and historically, in sweeping fields of newly mowed hay. An overlay states that it is Home of Sisters Rodeo with the rodeo logo. Along the bottom are two axes, established in the original logo by the first Cloverdale Fire Chief, Charles Trachsel.

"We wanted to maintain the continuity of history with Charlie's design," said Chief Olsen, who drafted the new artwork. "We feel we now have a depiction of what makes Cloverdale unique and beautiful."

"We are honored that they wanted to include us in their logo and identify our relationship with them. We are also grateful for all Cloverdale Fire District has done for the rodeo association for many, many years," said Rodeo President Glenn Miller. "The gift of the art is greatly appreciated."

Cloverdale Fire District includes the area from Sisters to the viewpoint on Highway 20 south and to Dry Canyon on Highway 126 east, a total area of 45 square miles. All firefighters in the district now wear the new logo patch on their official shirts and the department vehicles display the decal.
