Sixth graders dominate on hardwood

Opponents who tremble in fear at the thought of taking on the Lady Outlaws' dominant varsity Outlaws volleyball team face a grim future.

The sixth-grade volleyball team holds the promise of keeping the Outlaws tradition of stellar play rolling well into the next decade.

"I've been coaching volleyball for 12 years," said Sisters Middle School teacher and coach Midge Rose. "They were the best team I've ever had."

The team was composed of Mackenzie Banks; Makenah Gentry; Devry Grace; Alex Harford; Victoria Maiden; Patience O'Neal; Sabrina Reifschneider; Savannah Ryan; Tymbre Townsend; Laura Waltosz; Lauren Wattenburg; Kyara West.

The team played in the Bend Parks & Recreation league and utterly dominated opponents enroute to a 7-0 record.

Rose coached the team with assistance from volleyball veteran Karen O'Neal. They benefitted from coaching a team that has great depth of experience, despite their youth.

"Some of them have been playing since they were six or seven years old," Rose said. "They couldn't be stopped."

Rose sees a bright future for the Outlaws volleyball program when her sixth graders hit high school.

"They're going to be some of the best players we've ever seen," she said.
