To the Editor:

Support our local merchants this holiday season.

This seems to be the time of year, more so than any other, when I take stock of the blessings in my life. Coming in near the top of that list is how fortunate I am to live in such a magical town with such amazing people.

One of the things that makes this town so incredible is the variety, quality, and service offered by our local merchants. Without these diverse, inventive, hardworking entrepreneurs Sisters would be just another small town.

Every holiday season I make it my personal goal to spend the majority (if not every) gift dollar in OUR TOWN! A recent national article stated that for every dollar spent in a "big box store," 14 cents is returned to the community. For every dollar spent in a locally owned, small business a whopping 68 cents stays in the community.

This holiday season, think of our local merchants, think of our outstanding community and think of who you want to support with your holiday spending.

A peaceful, prosperous season to all,

Jennifer McCrystal

Thank you for the YouTube viewing of the Christmas Parade. It was wonderful to see from 1,800 miles away. Sure do miss Sisters some days.

To the Editor:

The Republicrats and the Democans keep arguing about how they are going to steal our grandchildren's money but they never talk about the sacred moose in the room. The Department of War.

The Department of War became irrelevant 50 years ago so they changed their name and now command 30-50 percent of the federal budget, depending on how you count things.

The obvious answer is to roll back Obama's military budget increases. Did you get a five percent pay increase this year?
