Lyle Davis April 18, 1926 - October 29, 2010

Lyle Davis, 84, of Phoenix, Oregon, passed away Tuesday, October 19, after a long illness.

Lyle was born on April 18, 1926 to Hiram and Edna Davis of Minot, North Dakota. Lyle's family moved to Sisters in 1936, where he attended school until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. Lyle served as a medic in the Navy and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his actions during the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Lyle returned to Sisters after discharge from the service and married Denise Dempsey on September 12, 1946. He worked in the timber industry in Central Oregon until 1955, when he moved his family to Medford.

Lyle started his career as a salesman for Littrell Parts and worked for them until he retired in 1991. Lyle was the consummate salesman; he could sell anything, and always had a smile on his face and a great sense of humor. In his spare time and during retirement, Lyle enjoyed playing golf, camping, hunting and volunteer work at the V.A. Domiciliary golf course.

He loved the time he was able to spend playing golf and camping with his grandchildren as they were growing up.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Denise; daughters Karen (Jim) Cox and Karla (John) Rouhier; nephew Terry Davis; grandchildren Jason (Summer) Cox, Jared Cox and Sandy Newsome, Casey (Shannon) Curtis, and Kendra (Matt) Cook; as well as seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kenneth Davis.

Lyle was a loving father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all.

There was a private graveside service held at Eagle Point National Cemetery October 26, honoring his service in World War II. Memorial contributions may be made to Dogs for the Deaf, 10175 Wheeler Road, Central Point, OR 97502.
