Family Art Night inspires creativity

Little hands threaded bright, colored beads with copper wire to make bracelets. They glued tissue paper onto balloons to create lanterns; decoupaged dominoes for refrigerator magnets; painted ceramic tiles to create coasters.

These were a few of Thursday night's art projects at Family Art Night at Sisters Elementary School. The school commons was filled with children and their parents creating and building amazing art creations.

There was no school funding for the event - organizers pulled it off with donations from the local business community and plenty of volunteer spirit.

The magic of the holiday season drove the annual event while parents grooved to the Beatles and Dean Martin Christmas tunes. Every minute was filled with the creation of crafty gifts. Kids had free access to an abundance of art supplies.

"How wonderful to be able to cut, glue, glitter, paint with no inhibitions," said Sisters artist Sandy Melchiori. "It was a night of artistic expression for everyone!"

Cash donations to the Sisters Art Literacy Program are critical to keeping these special events and art literacy going at Sisters Elementary School. Monetary donations can be dropped off at the Sisters Elementary School office.
