ReStore launches fundraising raffle

Sisters Habitat for Humanity is conducting a raffle to raise money to purchase a pre-owned panel truck or van for their ReStore. Robin Tawney, the ReStore manager, explains that the bed of the truck they are currently using is too high and not conducive for the pickup of heavy items that are donated such as refrigerators, washers, dryers and the like.

"We need a vehicle that's built lower to the ground and has a ramp to make loading and unloading easier," said Tawney.

According to Tawney, Habitat has its eye on a U-Haul van that would cost between $3,500 and $4,000.

The raffle began over Thanksgiving weekend and will continue until 400 tickets have been sold, but the drawing could be held as early as December 23. The cost of a ticket is $10.

There are 12 prizes in all, ranging in value from detailed stained glass work to a community garden plot. "I think it is significant that all but three of the prizes were created or donated by Habitat volunteers," said Tawney.

Tawney wants it made clear that the truck they have now will still be used by the volunteer homebuilders to carry materials to construction sites.

Raffle tickets are available for purchase at the Habitat ReStore, located at 150 N. Fir St. in Sisters. A list of the prizes is available there as well.

Tawney says that by buying a raffle ticket you will help Habitat better help others in the Sisters community.
