Cascade Horizon Band to perform in Sisters

The Cascade Horizon Band of Bend opens its concert series for 2011 with back-to-back performances. The first will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 29, in the Sisters High School Auditorium. The second is at 2 p.m. the following day, Sunday, January 30, in the Summit High School Auditorium in Bend.

Admission to each concert is free, but donations are gladly accepted.

Each of the Cascade Horizon programs opens with Aaron Copeland's "Fanfare for the Common Man," followed by "Prairie Dances," "Highlights from Exodus," "Irving Berlin's Show Stoppers," plus marches, popular numbers, and patriotic songs.

The Cascade Horizon Band, under the direction of Sue Steiger, is now in its eighth year. It is a full concert band, featuring reeds, brass, and percussion instruments. A senior band, its 75 members are 50 years old or older. While most hold advanced amateur status, the roster also includes teachers and retired professionals, all of whom play for the joy of making and bringing music to the public.

The band is a member of the Oregon Cultural Trust, and is a non-profit organization; donations are tax deductible.
