News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Brenda Hartford:
On January 4 I lost my mother's wedding rings and a ring from the mother of a friend of mine. I wear them around my neck. Somehow, the clasp came undone and I lost the rings.
I did not notice it until later that night. I went into panic mode. The rings were the only thing of my mom's that I have left. I retraced my steps, finding nothing. Wednesday morning, I went to the post office. I felt this was a long shot, but my husband told me nothing ventured, nothing gained.
To my surprise, they had my rings! I was told that three people had each brought in a ring. One of those people, I have found out, was Fred Ast. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to those three very, very honest people. Every time I start feeling like honesty is no longer a part of a person's principles, something like this happens. God bless each and every one of you.
Bonnie Lofton, Chair, Wheeler County Commission for Children and Families:
The communities of Spray and Mitchell lie within the boundaries of Wheeler County. Recently, we were the recipients of books donated by citizens of your community, and we would like you all to know how much we appreciate your generosity.
Our libraries are small and under-funded, and books are popular. We have heard the thanks from the two school superintendents and librarians and wanted to pass those thanks along to the parties who donated, recruited and delivered the boxes of books. Thank you!
