O'Brien is a winner on the mat at Redmond

Freshman Josh O'Brien was Sisters' lone winner in the Outlaws' match at Redmond on Tuesday, February 1.

Josh (130 pounds) was in complete control and dominated his first match of the evening against Mat Rodgers. O'Brien took the match in a 12-7 decision.

In an additional match at the end of the contest, O' Brien pinned Cody Williams in 1:22 in round one with a head-and-arm combination.

"I've improved on my moves this year and have discovered some new ones, like 'The Outlaw,' that are working well for me," O'Brien said.

"Our whole team is working very hard, and when we do lose matches, they're very close," said Josh. "My dad's (Coach Gene O'Brien) kicked up practice, we're training hard and I know we'll be ready to compete at Regionals."

Senior Chandler Zenich (160 pounds) went all three rounds with Sarek Shields but lost in the end by a 15-7 decision.

Senior Sterling Ryan went almost two rounds before he was pinned by Colton Howard.

Ryan said, "Coach has been encouraging us all to give 100 percent. We're practicing hard and I think our team will be ready for regionals."

In an extra match, Grant Chisholm (103) wrestled up to the 112-pound weight class against Allen Jepson. Chisholm battled hard but lost by a fall in round three.
