Young Outlaws wrestlers learn on the mat

Sisters Middle School Wrestling team has had a great 2011 season. The wrestling team finished off the season at the Central Oregon District tournament on February 18-19 and had four medal placers. They were: Dyut Fetrow, Zach Reid, Zach Jones and Hunter Rychener.

Then on March 6 eight wrestlers competed at the Central Oregon Middle School state qualifiers at Mountain View High.

"Between these two tournaments the boys did very well," said Coach John Downs. "I was very excited to see the boys grow in strength not just physically but also mentally, all in one day. There were many tough matches, and the boys showed that win or lose that they could come off the mat as men. I witnessed determination and the will to not give up, many fighting off their backs to eventually win matches. These season final tournaments helped them all understand what it means when I call wrestling one of the last true sports. No other sport requires more sacrifice, commitment and hard work."

Because of current and future budget cuts, the Sisters Middle School Wrestling Team has been close to being dissolved over the last couple of years. To make a monetary donation to the wrestling team, there is a donations account at South Valley Bank & Trust under the name Sisters Wrestling Donations Account.

"Current donations have helped us purchase our 17 new team sweats from local Sisters business Black Crater Clothing, and hopefully in the future we can purchase new headgear, knee pads and possibly use the donations to help with the cost of traveling," the coach said.
