News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters lacrosse returns nine experienced players, including Randon Beech, Connor Morgan, Brennan Layne, Beau Fitzke, Chris Smoot, Michael Williams, Sebastian Boehm, Jacob Akaka and William Saunders.
Akaka and Saunders will both play attack. Akaka will lend size and strength to the position, and he has the ability to score. According to Coach Bill Rexford, Saunders is wily and coachable and is expected to improve with every game played.
Fitzke, Smoot, Williams and Boehm are all back to anchor the midfield. Smoot is the strongest player on the squad and will be a tough guy to stop. Williams will lend tremendous speed to the team and Rexford stated that Boehm is graceful and tough as nails. Fitzke will take the face off and also score goals for the Outlaws.
Beech, Morgan and Layne are back on defense. Randon is a senior captain and the Outlaws' emotional leader.
"Randon has seen it all on the field," said Rexford. "He takes care of the culture and makes everyone around him better."
Morgan is a junior captain who Rexford describes as a warrior.
"Connor's excitement is through the roof, and this year he is on a team that is matching his enthusiasm."
Layne will protect the box at the goalie position.
"Brennan is a product of our sports conditioning class; he is walking tall and has the confidence to call the defense," stated Rexford.
New to the team this year are Scott Nelson, Colton Cooper, Drew Corrigan, Isaiah Glatz, Jacob Biber, Ryan Long, Porter Ford and Jens Staldi.
Coach Rexford noted that Nelson, Gladden and Cooper are athletic and smart and have already memorized the team's defensive schemes and terminology.
Rexford told The Nugget that this year's team could be the best squad that the Outlaws have ever put together.
"Thus far in this young season, they have showed a work ethic that has not been matched and a positive attitude that is contagious," said Rexford. "Despite the cold, sharp weather, the practice field has been warm and fuzzy as we work hard and come together as a team."
The Outlaws plan to work hard to achieve high but achievable goals this season. Rexford stated that the team expects to win some and lose some and in the process have a great time with each other and the sport of lacrosse.
