Golf teams battle cold and windy weather

The Outlaws golf teams both played well in their first match of the season. The boys finished in the middle of the pack at the Crooked River Invitational on Wednesday, March 16, and the girls team took third at the tournament held at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course on Monday, March 14.

Summit took first in the boys tournament at Crooked River Ranch with a score of 307, and Crook County was runner-up at 315. Bend High took third (327), Sisters fourth (348), Sweet Home fifth (389), Madras sixth (394) and Mt. View rounded out the team scores with a 402.

Zach Cummings and Nathan Pajutee both scored an 85 to lead Sisters. Pajutee did a nice job for his first time out as an Outlaw, carding a 36 on the front nine.

Jaxon Stark carded a 92, Dexter Mueller a 93 and Tyler Berg rounded out the scoring with a 94.

Coach Jeff Barton said, "The kids did great, and it gave them a bunch of confidence. It was windy and cold but they hung in there and competed nicely. It's great to see them playing well so early in the season."

Sisters' Lady Outlaws finished third in the JV tournament at Eagle Ridge. Bend took first place and Redmond finished as runner-up.

Cold and windy weather conditions prevailed throughout the match, but Coach Mary Flande stated her girls did a great job in their first tournament and gave a great effort.

Holly Chapman and Codie Lagao led the way for the Outlaws, and Erin Wren, Addy Goodwin and Delanie Stevens also had a good showing. No team scores were available.

Flande said, "The kids learned a lot today, and overall they were pleased with the effort. We are young but I do see a lot of potential in this team. We've only been able to practice for one week and they've already made much improvement."

The Lady Outlaws will resume play after spring break with a match at Crooked River Ranch on Monday, April 4. The boys' team will play at Tokatee on Thursday, March 31.
