News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Lottie Faye Dorman Jacobs March 22, 1923 - January 7, 2011

Surrounded by pets and family, Faye died peacefully in her home in Sisters after a short illness.

She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Jacobs-Halousek (Neal Halousek), grandchildren Jayel Hayden (Dana) of Redmond, Cara Hudson (Brett) of Sisters, Catherine Hayden (Rachel Steck) of Sisters, Arnie Guttry (Tammy) of Frederick, MD, Aric Guttry (Dottie) of Keedysville, MD, Jean Nagy (Dave) of N. Ridgeville, OH and 16 great-grandchildren, nephew Ed Tuggle of Wenatchee, WA, and niece Patty Green of Boring, Oregon.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lyle B. Jacobs, her oldest daughter Charlotte (Jacobs) Guttry and grandson Martin (Marty) Jacobs Hayden, her parents Manuel Dorman and Lola (Hudson) Dorman, sister Rhoda Dorman, brother Dale Dorman and sister Movelyn Dorman Tuggle.

At 11 years old Faye travelled with her family from Hobart, Oklahoma to Astoria, Oregon. She thought she had arrived in paradise. In good "Rosie the Riveter" fashion, she worked in the shipyards in Vancouver during WWII. In 1943 she married Lyle Jacobs in Albany, Oregon and moved to Lebanon shortly after. In Lebanon, they built their dream home and remained there until 1979. Faye took great pride in making a home for her husband and two daughters. In addition, she also worked alongside Lyle as the bookkeeper for their business, East Linn Fuel, in Sweet Home and Lebanon, for more than 30 years.

When they retired from their business, Faye and Lyle downsized their life into an RV. For 20 years, they spent the winters in Arizona and the rest of the year hunting and fishing in the Northwest with a home base in Redmond, Oregon.

Faye's baked, fresh-caught salmon was a favorite dish of all her family and friends.

In 1986, Faye and Lyle were called out of retirement to work for their daughter Bonnie and son-in-law Neal in their clothing business, "Your $10 Stores." They continued to work in the family business for an additional 10 years.

In her later years, Faye found her greatest joys with her family, her household pets and the wildlife that visited her yard. She was so pleased to share her birthday with her youngest great-grandchild, Ella Hayden. The above picture was taken in her 80th year on a cruise with most of her immediate family (only two small great-grandchildren unable to attend).

She will be sorely missed by all, but especially by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who stopped in often to get a bag of sweets.

At her request there will be no service. Her family will gather at one of her favorite fishing holes to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Hospice of Bend. Please sign our guest book at www.niswonger-reynolds.com.
