Outlaws golfers improve as season moves forward

The boys golf team has improved its scores with every match played and has high hopes to finish the season strong.

The Outlaws took second place at the Aspen Lakes Invitational held on Friday, April 8. Stayton took first-place honors with a team score of 343 and Sisters, just two strokes back, posted their best score of the year at 345.

Cottage Grove placed third (376), Sweet Home fourth (381), and Cascade fifth (396). Madras carded a 417 and Mt. View rounded out the scoring at 420.

Zach Cummings played well on the front nine, birdied the sixth hole, and finished with a 39. On the back, Cummings shot a 42 to finish at 81. Dexter Muller played a very consistent match and carded an 83 for his best round of the season. Muller birdied hole No. 8 to highlight the round.

Sol Ling-Scott filled in for Nathan Pajutee and shot an 87 in his first varsity match. Coach Jeff Barton told The Nugget that Ling-Scott played a consistent round and did a great job. Tyler Berg and Jaxon Stark both finished with a 94.

Barton said, "The guys are doing well, and I'm very optimistic about our chances at district, which is at Tokatee again this year."

Last week the Outlaws tied with Junction City for a third-place finish at the Cottage Grove Invitational, held at Tokatee on Thursday, March 31.

La Pine took first place with a team score of 331. Marist was runner-up at 344 and both Sisters and Junction City scored 355. Other scores were as follows: Cottage Grove 361, Sweet Home 383, and Creswell finished at 413.

Dexter Muller led the Outlaws with a career best 85. Dexter shot a 44 on the front nine and improved by three strokes on the back nine for a 41.

"Dexter hit the ball better and made the putts he had to make," said Coach Jeff Barton.

Zach Cummings shot an 87 and had nine pars in the round. Tyler Berg and Jaxon Stark both carded an 89 and Nathan Pajutee rounded out the scoring with a 95.

The Outlaws will compete in the Bend Invitational at the Bend Golf and Country Club on Monday, April 18.
