News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
With senior Amber Milliman hitting a three-run home run, a double and driving in four runs, the Sisters High School varsity softball team roughed up Sky-Em League foe Cottage Grove, 12-0, on April 12.
When Milliman hit her three-run home in the bottom of the fifth inning, the game was called by the 10-run "mercy" rule (leading by 10 runs after 5 innings).
Dating back to 2008, it was Cottage Grove's 49th straight loss. And it was the Outlaws' seventh straight win over the Lions.
Adding to the Outlaws hitting attack were sophomore Tiffani Milliman with a pair of hits and three runs batted in, sophomore Lauren Cantwell and senior Marisa Calavan singled twice, and junior Carly Kreminski added a double.
Senior pitcher Zoe Wavrin pitched a complete game victory, running her scoreless streak to nine innings. She allowed three base hits.
The win moved the locals to 2-4 on the season and 2-2 in league.
The Outlaws' April 15 game hosting Elmira was postponed until April 18 due to inclement weather. The test was to be the first of four key games for SHS against the top three teams in Sky-Em League play Elmira, Junction City and Sweet Home.
Elmira and Sweet Home defeated Sisters during the first round of Sky-Em action. That challenge was to be followed by a doubleheader at Junction City on April 19, then on the road to league leader Sweet Home on
April 22.
Sweet Home, 8-1 overall and 5-0 in the Sky-Em, is the lone Sky-Em team ranked in the state's Top 10 at No. 3 (OSAA rating). League standings after the first round: Sweet Home 5-0, Junction City 3-1, Elmira 3-2, Sisters, 2-2, La Pine 1-4, Cottage Grove 0-5.
