News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws suffered a big loss to Redmond on Thursday, April 14, but bounced back to play much better on Saturday, where they finished in a 4-4 tie with Central.
Ben Fullhart (No. 1 singles) notched the only win for Sisters in Thursday's action against Redmond. Fullhart played a patient, defensive game and stayed on top of Carlo Gangan for most of the match to earn the 7-5, 6-2 victory.
"It was a tough day for the Outlaws," said Coach Garth Tosello. "Most of our players never got on track. Redmond is a good team and played well. For most of the season our guys have played much better than they did today. I believe they will learn from this and improve."
On Saturday, the Outlaws split matches with Central, 4-4.
Fullhart kept the ball in play with good ground strokes to beat Bjorn Olsen 6-0, 6-4 in No. 1 singles play.
Devon Calvin (No. 3 singles) played a very smart match en route to his 6-2, 6-2 victory over Casey Watson.
"Devon played a very strategic game and made Watson run," said Tosello. "Devon's good play forced Watson to make errors."
Colby Gilmore and Austin Williams played together for the first time at the No. 1 doubles spot. The duo lost 6-7 in a very close first set but came back with a decisive 6-1 win in the second set. Carlos Flores and Luis Meza played a good third set but couldn't overcome Sisters' strategic net play and well-placed ground
strokes.
Trevor Standen and Alex Cristiano (No. 3 doubles) beat Adam Dutton and Josh Patterson in a dogfight match. Trevor and Alex came out on top 7-6 (10-6), 7-5.
"In this match every point counted, and our guys got the point when they needed it," stated Tosello.
The Outlaws will play at home at Black Butte Ranch against Mt. View on Thursday, April 21.
