News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws golf squad took first place at the JV tournament held at Aspen Lakes on Wednesday, April 20.
Due to very cold and windy conditions, teams played a slightly modified tournament where the course was shortened to assure players could complete the nine holes.
Sisters posted a team score of 197, and Redmond was just two strokes back at 199. Madras took third at 208.
Holly Chapman led the Outlaws with a score of 46 and earned medalist honors for the first time in her golfing career.
Coach Mary Flande said, "Holly has been knocking on the door with second- and third-place finishes but this week she was at the top at the end of the nine-hole match. Holly continues to play very consistent week to week."
Of her performance, Chapman said, "In general, my putts and drives were much better. Today, I kept my drives in the fairway, and on the green I kept my putts down to two or three."
Codie Lagao carded a 48 for a fourth-place overall finish. Erin Wren shot a 51 and Delanie Stevens posted a 52.
"Codie is playing solid every week and finishing in the top six to ten every match," said Flande. "Erin and Delanie are starting to make good contact with the ball and are driving down their scores each
week."
A week earlier, the Lady Outlaws played well at the Nine Peaks Golf Course in Madras. The match was held on Monday, April 11, on a very cool and windy afternoon.
Bend took first place with a score of 220 for nine holes, Crook County was runner-up at 232 and Sisters was just five strokes back at 237. Madras rounded out the scoring at 244.
Flande told The Nugget that playing at Nine Peaks under windy weather conditions can be tough but stated she felt her team met the challenge head on.
Holly Chapman had a birdie on the eighth hole and finished with a 51 for second place overall. Codie Lagao scored a 56 which earned her a fifth-place finish overall. Addy Goodwin and Erin Wren both carded a 65 and Delanie Stevens shot a 70. All five players finished with a personal best on the day.
Flande said, "This group of girls is getting better every week, and it's exciting to see the improvement in each of their games. All the girls played a solid game of golf and finished strong."
On Monday, April 4, the Lady Outlaws competed against four other Central Oregon teams at the Crooked River Ranch JV golf tournament.
Codie Lagao shot a personal best of 60 for nine holes to finish 11th among 30 participants, and Holly Chapman carded a 64 for a 14th-place finish.
Erin Wren and Delanie Stevens each shot a 78.
