Driver in fatal crash faces six years prison

The driver in a single-car crash that killed a Sisters teen last August has reportedly reached a plea deal that will put her in prison for over six years.

The wreck occurred on Highway 20 near Black Butte Ranch on August 17, when Stacia Roberts, 23, of Bend, failed to negotiate a curve and plowed into a tree.

Joshua Herrin, 19, of Bend, was killed in the wreck. Nina Blackmore, 18, was transported to the hospital via AirLink. She died of her injuries. Roberts and another passenger were not seriously injured.

KTVZ-TV reported that Roberts entered guilty pleas on Wednesday, April 27, to two counts of manslaughter and a single count of assault related to the crash.

Roberts also entered an Alford plea to drunken driving charges. Under an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges a judge or jury is likely to find the person guilty.

Prosecutors said drug tests showed Roberts had used at least three controlled substances - Ecstacy, marijuana and an opiate - in the days before the crash. Sentencing was set for May 16 in Deschutes County Circuit Court.
