Sisters golfers tackle 100-hole marathon

Call it extreme golf.

Greg Zadow and Chris van der Velde of Sisters will take on a 100-hole golf marathon at Tetherow Golf Club in Bend on Friday, June 17. The event, organized by Tetherow partner van der Velde, will support children's charities in Central Oregon.

Each golfer must secure at least $1,500 in pledges to participate.

"Currently we have 14 pledged up and ready to roll, and I think we have five more on the books," said van der Velde.

The player who secures the most pledges will receive a new set of Nike golf clubs and a 2-night/3-day golf vacation.

"I think Greg's leading that now," van der Velde said.

Zadow, a physical therapist in Sisters and an avid athlete, is approaching the event with his usual intensity.

"He's guessing he can do it in 10 to 12 hours with a little break in between," van der Velde said.

Van der Velde said he hopes to net between $25,000 and $30,000 to be distributed among: Cascade Youth and Family Services; First Story; Family Access Network; Healthy Beginnings; Children First for Oregon.
