News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Every once in a while an amazing person comes along who steps up to make things happen. For the grad night party, Stephanie Fennimore was that person! I'd like to thank our fearless leader, Debbie Williams, for her tireless efforts to pull off a party without funding. Atta girl, Deb! And Stephanie, my text to Debbie this morning regarding you: "We would have been dead ducks without her." Congratulations to the graduates and to the parents who gave their time and energy to make it all happen.
In early March of this year, French teacher Susanna Harrison treated her students to the option of taking Le Grand Concours National French Exam as a parting gesture to the French program at Sisters High School.
This is a highly respected exam, administered since 1935, that allows French students to measure themselves against their peers in Oregon and on the national level, and is fully compliant with National Foreign Language Standards. Approximately 420 students took the exam in Oregon; more than 20,000 students participated nationwide. The students took the exam after a three-month imposed hiatus from French, and yet, their exam results are impressive and worthy of celebration:
French 2: Cooper Gould, 27th in the state, 40th nationally;
Jared Early, 20th in the state, 33rd nationally;
Madison Boettner, 17th in the state, 30th nationally;
Emily Christen, 16th in the state, 28th nationally;
Katie Dumolt, 15th in the state, 27th nationally;
MacKenzie Legg, 8th in the state, 17th nationally;
French 3: Jacobie Peterson, 13th in the state, 35th nationally;
Emili Grant, 6th in the state, 27th nationally;
Autumn Saunders, fifth in the state, 20th nationally;
Elize Vanderlaan, 3rd in the state, 13 nationally;
Sarah Dumolt and Emily Coorigan, 2nd in the state, 11th nationally.
The American Association of the Teachers of French administers and scores the exams. Students receive commemorative pins, French books or CDs, and certificates for their accomplishments. Vive le Francais!

Hats off and a big thank you to the Boy Scouts and leaders of Sisters' Troop 188. The extra tables and chairs at the Memorial Day celebration at the city park wouldn't have been there if it hadn't been for the Scouts hauling them back and forth. At the end of the day, there was no trash left behind, and everything that could be recycled was also hauled off by those willing young men and their leaders.
Just one more reason why the Sisters community is a wonderful place to be.
Thanks guys!
