Around the Block showcases fiber arts

The eighth annual Around the Block Fiber Arts Stroll is scheduled for Sunday, July 3, from 2 to 6 p.m. in downtown Sisters.

Participating businesses will host one or more fiber artists displaying their work. Some of the artists have pieces for sale or a small project for visitors to purchase and try themselves. Most will be demonstrating their fiber artwork techniques.

The event is presented this year by Clearwater Gallery. The gallery is hosting Quilters Affair instructor and nationally known quilt artist Barbara Shapel for a reception during the stroll.

Major sponsors of the stroll are Sisters Coffee Company, featuring Sisters of the Heart/Quilts from Uganda; Paulina Springs Books, hosting Deborah Stanley and her embellished fabric books; The Hen's Tooth, showcasing hand-dyed fabric and quilts by Janelle Rebick; Desert Charm has Susan Torassa spinning and weaving and Kathy Shaker's art quilts; and Common Threads features the fiber art of Jean Wells Keenan.

The event is free to the public. See art stroll map below, or pickup a copy of the map after July 1 at the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce and participating businesses.
