News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Quilt show visitors may find themselves going down the rabbit hole, or perhaps through the looking glass, as they view the display of quilts created by the Cover to Cover Book Club Quilters of Portland.
"All of our quilts are based on books that we read," said Pat Busby of Lake Oswego. "We vote on them - two books a year."
This year's display is based on Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland."
The quilts will be part of the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show on Saturday, July 9. The quilts will also be on display on the lawn at the Heritage Building on the corner of Hood Avenue and Pine Street for the show's new Save it for Sunday Exhibition.
"Alice," of course, lends itself wonderfully to interpretation in the quilting medium, and the Cover to Cover group gave full rein to the color and delightfully crazy characters the book offers.
The group has been in action for more than a decade now and has exhibited in Sisters before, with a selection of quilts inspired by JK Rowling's "Harry Potter" books.
The quilters note that they enjoy having a focus for their creativity, and they get together once a month to share ideas and techniques and to offer each other feedback and encouragement.
