Swing band featured at family night in the park

Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) will host a family night in the park on Tuesday, July 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Village Green. The community is welcome to bring their friends, family, and neighbors and come out to enjoy a $1 hamburger or hotdog dinner.

The evening will feature the music and memories of the Big Band Era with music from the '30s, '40s and '50s. The Notables Swing Band will serve up favorites from such bands as Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, and Harry James. The 19-member band is a spin-off of the 75-member Cascade Horizon Band, whose concerts are well known in Bend and the surrounding areas.

The band raises awareness and money to provide musical instruments for youth.

Other activities for the evening include crafts for kids, the jumpy castle, an opportunity to learn to play disc golf hosted by the Hyzer Pines Disc Golf Committee, and a chance for kids of all ages to give slack-lining a try. Sno cones will be sold for $1 by the Outlaw Cheer Club.

Attendees should bring blankets or low-to-the-ground lawn chairs for seating. Dancing is highly recommended.
