News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
If you are a dog lover, head for Sisters on August 6 for a one-of-a-kind dog show, celebrating doggieness and featuring all kinds of original art works. You can meet the artists, get a portrait of your pet, see dog champions perform agility demonstrations, talk with suppliers of healthy pet products, and purchase original art for your home or office.
Sisters Art Works and the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce are designating August 6 the Premiere Dog Day of Summer. Sisters Park & Recreation District will kick off the day with an 8 a.m. fun run. Then, starting at 10 a.m., The Dog Show will open at Sisters Art Works, 204 W. Adams Ave. During the day, there will be agility demonstrations and games set up by Jan Gould of Dusty Boots Farm, pet supply vendors, and other fun activities provided by Central Bark and Groomingdales.
The Dog Show, a fetching display of canine imagery, will be featured at Sisters Art Works (SAW) Gallery throughout the dog days of summer, August 1 through September 23.
Everyone is invited to the artists' reception on August 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the main gallery at SAW. A portion of the sales from The Dog Show art will go to Furry Friends, as will proceeds from pet portraits, taken on August 6 by Cooper Gould, at the Sisters Art Works building.
Furry Friends is the project that helps to purchase pet food, supplies and spay and neuter of the pets belonging to Sisters residents in need. Kiki Dolson, publisher of The Nugget Newspaper, has organized Furry Friends pet help for 17 years, partnering with the Sisters Kiwanis Food Bank to distribute food and funds where they're most needed in the community.
Artists whose work will be featured in The Dog Show are: Paul Alan Bennett (paintings and cards), Kathy Deggendorfer (paintings, bags, pillows and mugs), Sandy Melchiori (paintings and posters), Cathy Warner (paintings), Al Krause (photographs), Pat Clark (Atelier 6000 fine art etchings), Mary Koons (quilts), Deb Sether (ceramics), Bruce Williams (custom dog portraits), Steve Mathews (wooden mirror frames), Anthony Gordon (ceramics), Janit Brockway, Lorraine Albertson, Nancy Dasen, J.
