Heads Up! A new salon opens in Sisters

For years, Melissa Tasaki has wanted to operate a salon.

"I've always wanted to cut hair," she said. "It's art to me, and (in) my personality, I need to do art all week long or I'm not happy."

Now she's bringing her art to fruition at Heads Up! Salon, at 220 W. Cascade Ave. The salon will offer hair styling, waxing and nails. Tasaki is working with Sheri Philpott (nails) and Elaine Hawes (hair and waxing).

"I'm an economically friendly, modern hair design... cozy, friendly neighborhood salon," Tasaki said.

The longtime Sisters resident has moved into a new career after years in nursing.

"I've been gradually over the past few years breaking away from the nursing field," she said. "I needed a happier profession."

Tasaki finds joy in helping others to look their best, and consulting on what will bring out a client's best is an important part of Heads Up! Salon's offerings.

"I find that people really want to know what would look good on them," Tasaki said. "It's all about feeling good. I'm all about accentuating the positive in every situation and person."

Tasaki is excited to have found a visible and accessible location for her business.

"I've been eyeing this place for years," she said. "I would only have done it if I was right on the main drag."

Tasaki is well aware that Sisters has a lot of salons, so location is important. And so is quality. She believes Heads Up! Salon delivers.

"I just think we're good at what we do, that's all," she said.
