News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Hayley Palmer did a lot of good running, learning, and community service during her four years at Sisters High School, and the Central Oregon Running Klub (CORK) acknowledged that by investing $500 toward Hayley's future in the form of the inaugural CORK Cross Country and Track Scholarship.
Sean Meissner, a local ultra-marathon runner, sits on the board for CORK and was part of the selection committee.
"Hayley is exactly the type of student we were looking to honor," he said. "Her academic, service, and athletic record are all top-notch. Her essay was wonderful, and she really stood out from all the other girls."
The scholarship required students to write a short essay in addition to describing their accomplishments and future goals.
Palmer is enrolled at Pacific University in Forest Grove for the fall, where she plans to major in art. She is already training for the Boxers' cross-country and track teams.
Hayley is the daughter of Renee and Craig May of Sisters.
